The Rotary Club of El Campo began a project in 1999 to design and build the El Campo Aquatic Center, after the President at that time Rick Marik conducted a survey to see what the community felt was a top priority. A family oriented venue for recreation and exercise surfaced as the top priority and the City was needing to replace an outdated outdoor pool, so the year round indoor facility was accepted as a project for the Club. The Pool Committee was successful in soliciting funds for the project through various grant applications and approached the City, School District and Wharton County for their participation as well.
The final result was a $1.9 million facility complete with an 8 lane competition pool, a playscape area with a 50 foot slide and various other water amenities, and a large hot tub. The facility opened in January 2005 and is being operated by the City of El Campo.
