Chief of Police

The Chief of Police for the City of El Campo is the Chief Administrative Officer of the Police Department.  The Chief is appointed by the City Manager with the approval of City Council.  (City of El Campo Home Rule Charter Article 4.04)

     The current Chief is David Marcaurele.  He is the 7th Chief since the founding of the Department in 1946.  He has over 40 years experience as a Texas Peace Officer. He was born in El Campo and has called El Campo home his entire life.  
     Chief Marcaurele started his career in 1982 with the Wharton County Sheriff's Office, holding the ranks of Jailer, Deputy, Deputy II, Sergeant, Sergeant-Investigator, Lieutenant-Investigator, and  Chief Deputy.  In 1992 he went to the Sugar Land Police Department holding ranks of Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain.  In 2013 he took the position of Chief Deputy for the Fort Bend County Sheriff and remained for 2 terms.  In 2020 he took the position of Special Ranger commissioned by the Texas Department of Public Safety and employed by the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, holding ranks of Special Ranger and Regional Supervisory Special Ranger.
     Chief Marcaurele holds a Master Peace Officer Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and is also certified as a Police Instructor.  His career has included every aspect of law enforcement in practitioner, supervision, and administrative roles (having over 31 years experience in Supervisory ranks).
