The Criminal Investigations Divisions investigates crimes reported to the department. They interview witnesses, interrogate suspects, prepare and execute arrest and search warrants during the course of an investigation. Criminal cases are filed with the District Attorney's Office or the County Attorney for prosecution.
Lt. Urban was born and raised in Columbus, Texas. He graduated Columbus High School in 1986. He graduated from WCJC with an Associates degree in criminal justice, in 1989. He began his law enforcement career two months later in Poteet, Texas, as a patrol officer. In 1990 he went home to Columbus, and began working as a patrol officer for the Columbus Police Department, rising to the rank of patrol sergeant. He left there in 1993 and began working as a patrol officer with the El Campo Police Department. He was promoted to Detective Sergeant in 2000, and then to Lieutenant of the Criminal Investigations Division in 2009. He received the officer of the year award in 1995 and holds a Master Peace Officer License.
Sergeant Soza has been with the El Campo Police Department since 2007. During his tenure he has promoted through the ranks, first promoting to Patrol Corporal, Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant Narcotics/ Wharton County Narcotics Task Force / Home Land Security Task Force Officer, and currently serving as Detective Sergeant Criminal Investigations. In addition to his current assignment, Sergeant Soza also serves as the department’s Texas Police Chiefs Recognition Program Manager, Taser and Defensive Tactics Instructor, and the department’s Special Response Team Leader. Sergeant Soza is a Master Peace Officer, he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 262, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Lamar University.
