Municipal Court

MISSION STATEMENTThe mission of the Municipal Court is to provide the citizens of El Campo a judicial system dedicated to the principals of fair and impartial justice administered with respect and equality while implementing the procedures established by the Judiciary and the State Legislature.

JURISDICTIONThe City of El Campo Court is one of limited jurisdiction. It has the authority to hear cases involving but not limited to:

Traffic Violations, which include moving and non-moving violations, commercial vehicle violations, failure to maintain financial responsibility, no driver's license, etc.

Class C Misdemeanors, (fines punishable by a maximum fine of $500) include: public intoxication, theft (less than $50.00), disorderly conduct, minors in possession of alcohol and tobacco, possession of drug paraphernalia, issuance of bad check, etc.

Violations of City Ordinance, violations of juvenile curfew, park curfew, environmental violations, health and safety violations associated with food service establishments, permit violations, dangerous building, junked vehicle violations and animal violations, etc.

Municipal Court Hours of OperationThe court is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. except on holidays. Arraignments are held each morning beginning at 8:00 a.m. until all arraignments are complete.

Contested hearings (not guilty pleas) are held the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month beginning at 8:30 a.m. and continuing until docket is complete. A hearing notice is given to each defendant whose case is set on the docket.

Minors (16 years old and under) must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Fine Payment InformationFines may be paid in full in lieu of court appearance for all individuals over the age of 16. Payments may be made at the court in the form of cash, money order, credit/debit card or check drawn on a local bank (unless issuance of bad check has been filed for individual).

For your convenience, payments may also be made using MasterCard or VISA by calling 1-800-887-9240 and following the recorded instructions.

For individuals requesting payment plans or defensive driving course, you must appear either in person or in writing within the prescribed time noted on your ticket.
